CUNENE, Angola -- Five people were killed and one seriously injured as the result of an anti-tank mine blast in Angola's southern Cunene Province, an officer of the National Inter-Sectoral Commission on Demining and Humanitarian Assistance (CNIDAH) in the region, Mario Satipamba, told the press Tuesday.

According to the official, the incident happened in Mongua town in Cuanhama municipality, around 10 p.m. Monday when they were riding a motorbike on a scarcely used road. (Angola-Landmine-Kill)

VALLETTA -- The Armed Forces of Malta (AFM) rescued 76 migrants from a stranded boat in its Search and Rescue Zone and brought them to Malta on Tuesday.

WASHINGTON -- The International Monetary Fund (IMF) on Tuesday lowered its global growth forecast for 2019 to 3 percent in the newly-released World Economic Outlook (WEO) report, down 0.2 percentage point from its estimation in July.

Noting that this is the slowest pace since the global financial crisis, IMF chief economist Gita Gopinath said during a press conference at the global lender's headquarters that "growth continues to be weakened by rising trade barriers and growing geopolitical tensions." (IMF-WEO-Global Growth)

TRIPOLI -- The International Organization for Migration (IOM) on Tuesday said it had deported 162 illegal Nigerian immigrants voluntarily from Libya to their country.

"In the predawn hours on Tuesday, 162 stranded Nigerian migrants in Libya set off for their home country with a Lagos-bound charter flight from Misurata," IOM said in a statement. (Libya-Nigeria-Migration)

YAOUNDE -- At least 11 plantation workers were seriously injured and four others abducted Monday night by armed separatists in Tiko, a locality in Cameroon's restive English-speaking region of Southwest, according to local authorities.

MOGADISHU -- Somali national forces on Tuesday killed 11 al-Shabab extremists in an operation in the southern region of Gedo, a military official said.

Ali Mohamed Hassan, commander of the Unit 49 division 10 of Somali National Army told journalists that the forces launched an attack on the militants in the outskirts of Bardhere town following a tip-off from the residents that the militants were forcefully collecting taxes from the locals. DAR ES SALAAM -- At least 11 people, including five pupils, have been killed by ongoing heavy rains in Tanzania's eastern region of Morogoro, a senior police official said on Tuesday.
