YANGON -- Myanmar Vice President U Henry Van Thio has called for working towards the production of food safe for consumption and the development of living standard in rural areas to properly feed the growing population and nurture the future generation into healthy and able-bodied citizens.

SINGAPORE -- Singapore's non-oil domestic exports (NODX) to Chinese mainland grew 20.8 percent year on year in September, following the 38.4 percent increase in August, according to a media release issued by Enterprise Singapore on Thursday.

In a breakdown of Singapore's total NODX, Singapore's electronic exports declined by 24.8 percent year on year in September, following the 25.9 percent decrease in the previous month. Meanwhile, the non-electronic exports decreased by 2.3 percent year on year, following the 2.3 percent decline in August. (Singapore-Export)

MANILA -- The death toll from the 6.3-magnitude earthquake that struck North Cotabato province in southern Philippines on Wednesday has climbed to five people, local officials said on Thursday.
