TOKYO, Oct. 18 (Xinhua) -- The benchmark Nikkei stock average closed at a 10-month high Friday, as investor sentiment was bolstered by U.S. shares trading higher overnight on the back of solid corporate earnings, while a draft Brexit deal between Britain and the European Union added to an upbeat mood.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 40.82 points, or 0.18 percent, from Thursday to close the day at 22,492.68.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, shed 2.17 points, or 0.13 percent, to finish at 1,621.99.

Glass and ceramic product, and oil and coal product issues led notable gainers, while food and information and communication-linked issues comprised those that declined the most by the close of play. Enditem
