BUENOS AIRES, Oct. 17 (Xinhua) -- A made-for-TV documentary series co-produced by China and Argentina offers viewers a glimpse of the lives of Chinese living and working in the South American country and a range of development projects carried out between the two countries.

Titled "Sorprendente ArgenChina (Surprising ArgenChina)," the co-production premiered on Sunday on the Argentine Public Television network (Tv Publica) as part of celebrations of the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China.

On Wednesday, a special showing at Tv Publica's headquarters signalled the program's official launch, which was attended by China's Ambassador to Argentina Zou Xiaoli, and the network's President, Miguel Pereira, among others.

"I think what we have achieved is historic, because there has never before been a co-production between China Central Television and any Argentine television channel, so for us it was transcendental," Pereira told Xinhua.

The documentary grew out of several earlier programs, such as "Sorprendente China (Surprising China)," "Sorprendente Argentina" (Surprising Argentina)", and "China en una mano (China in the palm of your hand," which aired in 2018.

"What 'Surprising ArgenChina' wanted to do is (to) show what other projects we are developing together. It showed, for example, where you can study Chinese. There are bilingual public schools. Tt's unprecedented! Today, there are Argentine kids and children of Chinese immigrants who are studying both languages," noted Pereira.

Two episodes of the series have aired so far, focusing on bilateral exchange in sports, particularly football, education, as well as space science.

The documentary also features facilities built in the country with Chinese technology and know-how, said Pablo Coppari, who hosts and narrates the program.

"We traveled to see the Condor Cliff and La Barrancosa dams (which was spearheaded by China Gezhouba Group Company) in Santa Cruz province, and in closing, we visited the province of Jujuy to see the (Cauchari) Solar Park," a project led by Chinese company Shanghai Electric Power and inaugurated just days ago, said Coppari.

Coppari, who also hosted "China in the palm of your hand," said getting to know China was an "enriching" experience that revealed the two countries share very similar values and are in that sense closer "despite the distance." Enditem
