WASHINGTON -- Two U.S. astronauts carried out the first-ever all-female spacewalk for humankind as they ventured outside the International Space Station (ISS) on Friday.

NASA astronauts Christina Koch and Jessica Meir began the spacewalk at about 7:50 a.m. U.S. Eastern Time (1250 GMT), according to NASA live TV. They have been tasked with replacing a power controller that failed during the weekend. (US-Space-Females)

DAMASCUS -- A total of five people were killed Friday by Turkish airstrikes in Syria's northeastern province of Hasakah despite a cease-fire agreement with Kurdish forces, state news agency SANA reported.

Some 20 other civilians were wounded in the airstrikes that targeted the village of Um al-Kheir on the outskirts of the city of Ras al-Ayn in the countryside of Hasakah province near Turkey. (Syria-Turkey-Airstrikes)

KABUL -- At least 32 worshippers were killed and over 60 wounded after a mortar shelling attack hit a mosque in Haska Mina district of Afghanistan's eastern Nangarhar province on Friday, a provincial source said.

"The incident occurred in Jodari at midday when two mortar shells fired by militants struck a mosque during Friday prayers and the roof of the muddy building collapsed by the force of the explosions," the source told Xinhua anonymously. (Afghanistan-Shelling-Worshippers)

ISTANBUL -- Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Friday that Turkey expects the Kurdish militia to leave within 120 hours the safe zone to be established by Ankara in northern Syria.

"The YPG should leave the area which we have designated as a safe zone," Erdogan told reporters in Istanbul, referring to the People's Protection Units. (Turkey-Erdogan-Kurdish Militia) Enditem
