BRATISLAVA, Oct. 18 (Xinhua) -- The 13th round of Tipsport Liga, the premier ice-hockey league in Slovakia, did not produce many surprising results on Friday.

Banska Bystrica and Bratislava are still on top of the league with third-placed Zvolen and fourth-ranked Kosice breathing down their necks and trailing by only one point.

Zvolen's fourth victory in a row was one of their easiest in the season. The visitors from Nitra refused to bow before the team from the central region of Slovakia for two entire periods but a barrage of four straight goals by the home players brought their hopes to a bitter end. Zvolen's Canadian-born Kyle Bonis scored twice and assisted on another to lead his team to a 4-0 victory, pushing Nitra down to the penultimate spot in the league and serving their new coach his third defeat in a row.

The only worse team than Nitra is the last-placed Liptovsky Mikulas. The club from the town known for its water park and skiing resorts tried to keep up with the visitors from Kosice but the 8-time champions broke the home team's resistance late in the third and concluded the night with an empty-netter to defeat Liptovsky Mikulas 4-2.

Nove Zamky managed to snap their sinister five-game losing streak thanks to a clear 3-0 victory over Detva, their new upstairs neighbor in the rankings after moving up one spot.

The most thrilling clash witnessed the fans in Poprad. In a well-balanced duel between two teams from the middle sector of the league table, Trencin managed to rally and tie things up after being down by two and a shootout had to determine the winner in the end. The home team converted only one attempt while the guests scored on four occasions to seal Trencin's 3-2 victory.

Jakub Linet's wonderful three-goal night helped Michalovce break their series of three losses and brought a much needed 4-1 triumph over Budapest to the league's newcomer that is still keeping pace with the top teams and sits in the fifth place in the rankings. Enditem
