Brunei deported 9,975 foreign nationals in past 5 years

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Oct. 19 (Xinhua) -- Brunei deported a total of 9,975 foreign nationals back to their home countries within the five-year period from 2014-2019 for committing various immigration offences, the local daily Borneo Bulletin reported on Saturday, quoting the latest statistics from the country's Department of Immigration and National Registration.

The local daily also reported that joint raid operations were conducted by various law enforcement divisions recently aimed to catch immigration offenders or illegal immigrants in various places in the country, including shops, restaurants, farms, and rented residential sites.

During these various operations conducted this month, the law enforcers also issued summon letters to foreign nationals caught without valid or doubtful travel documents. Some were brought in for questioning or further investigation.

The country's Department of Immigration and National Registration stated that foreigners who are found to have violated the law will be blacklisted to re-enter the country. Enditem
