CAPE TOWN, Oct. 20 (Xinhua) -- The following are news highlights in South African major media outlets on Sunday.

-- Opposition Democratic Alliance leader Mmusi Maimane proposed on Saturday that the party hold its first "policy conference," repeating a call for an early elective congress, as a much-anticipated federal council meeting kicked off.

Debate, discussion and horse-trading continued at the meeting as 155 delegates descended on the party's headquarters in Bruma, Johannesburg. (News24)

-- Despite assuring that there won't be load shedding on Sunday, electricity utility Eskom said its power system remained constrained.

After four straight days of blackouts, the utility said on Saturday load shedding could be implemented should there be any breakdown at its plants. (Eyewitness News) Enditem
