BAKU, Oct. 21 (Xinhua) -- Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev received the resignation of the country's two vice prime ministers on Monday, according to the president's official website.
Ali Hasanov, 71, and Hajibala Abutalibov, 75, submitted their resignation letters to the president earlier Monday.
Hasanov had been vice prime minister since 1998, while Abutalibov had served in this post since 2018 when he was appointed after heading Baku mayor's office for 17 years.
On Oct. 8, President Aliyev appointed his aide for economic affairs as the country's new prime minister. Ali Asadov, 62, succeeded Novruz Mammadov who had served since April 2018.
At a meeting on economic issues held Wednesday, the Azerbaijani leader hinted at serious government reforms. Commenting on the appointment of the new prime minister, President Aliyev said: "When appointing Ali Asadov to this position, I gave him many responsibilities. I set the task of carrying out reforms, including personnel reforms. It is necessary to attract qualified young people with a modern outlook and knowledge of the modern economy. We live in the 21st century, so how can we go into the future with old thinking and old knowledge?" Enditem
