WASHINGTON -- The 70th International Astronautical Congress, a five-day conference devoted to discussing innovation and advances in the space industry, began in Washington D.C. on Monday.
The congress, which runs until Friday, has drawn more than 6,000 industry delegates from around the world to discuss the space industry growth, solar and deep space exploration, liquid water search on Mars, defense against asteroids and space transportation management. (US-Space-Congress)

UNITED NATIONS -- The UN Security Council on Monday strongly condemned Friday's terrorist attack inside a mosque in eastern Afghanistan.

SANTIAGO -- Protests over the weekend left 11 people dead in Chile's capital Santiago and the Metropolitan area, an official said on Monday.

TRIPOLI -- Libyan navy said on Monday that it rescued 126 illegal immigrants off the country's western coast, navy spokesman Ayob Qassem told Xinhua.
