BEIJING -- Chinese stocks closed higher on Tuesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.5 percent, at 2,954.38 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.93 percent higher at 9,642.09 points.

HO CHI MINH CITY -- VN-Index, the stock market index of Ho Chi Minh City bourse in southern Vietnam, closed at 987.19 points on Tuesday, up 3.63 points, or 0.37 percent against the previous trading day.

Over 231.6 million shares worth nearly 4 trillion Vietnamese dong (172 million U.S. dollars) changed hands at the Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange. Specifically, foreign investors bought more than 12.9 million shares totaling 471 billion Vietnamese dong (20.5 million U.S. dollars), and sold more than 12.8 million shares totaling 449 billion Vietnamese dong (19.5 million U.S. dollars).

MUMBAI -- Indian markets closed lower Tuesday. ICICI Bank was the top gainer, up 3 percent while Infosys tanked 16 percent.

The benchmark S&P, BSE Sensex closed at 38,963.84, 334.54 points or 0.85 percent down compared to its previous close at 39,298.38.

JAKARTA -- Indonesia shares closed higher by 26.51 points, or 0.43 percent, to a level of 6,225.49 on Tuesday.

Some 499.092 transactions were booked, involving 16.8 billion copies of shares with a value of 7.9 trillion rupiah (about 562.7 million U.S. dollars).

SINGAPORE-- Singapore stocks closed higher on Tuesday, with the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) going up 0.69 percent, or 21.52 points, to close at 3,160.67.

A total of 1.02 billion shares changed hands with a turnover of 1.14 billion Singapore dollars (about 836.79 million U.S. dollars). Gainers outnumbered losers by 185 to 184.

KUALA LUMPUR -- The Malaysian stock market ended higher here on Tuesday.

The Kuala Lumpur Composite Index (KLCI) was at 1,574.09 up 3.16 points or 0.20 percent, but the Emas was at 11,202.39 up 10.09 points or 0.09 percent.

HANOI -- Stock market index of Vietnam's capital Hanoi, HNX-Index, closed at 104.49 points on Tuesday, up 0.48 points or 0.47 percent from the previous trading session.

Nearly 33.8 million shares worth over 413.1 billion Vietnamese dong (18 million U.S. dollars) were traded at the Hanoi Stock Exchange on Tuesday. Specifically, foreign investors bought over 1 million shares valued at roughly 8.3 billion Vietnamese dong (358,132 U.S. dollars), and sold nearly 1.2 million shares valued at 33 billion Vietnamese dong (1.4 million U.S. dollars).

HONG KONG -- Hong Kong stocks closed up 60.52 points, or 0.23 percent, to 26,786.2 points on Tuesday.

The benchmark Hang Seng Index traded between 26,698.3 and 26,844.29. Turnover totaled 75.18 billion Hong Kong dollars (about 9.59 billion U.S. dollars).

PHNOM PENH -- Cambodia's stocks finished higher on Tuesday, with the Cambodia Securities Exchange (CSX) Index up 5.1 points, or 0.63 percent, to close at 820.01.

A total of 4,421 shares worth 65.9 million riel (16,262 U.S. dollars) were traded, the CSX said.

MANILA -- Philippine shares closed 0.81 percent higher on Tuesday.

The benchmark Philippine Stock Exchange index increased by 64.11 points to 7,955.24. The all-share index went up by 30.36 points, or 0.64 percent, to 4,784.11.

SEOUL -- Seoul shares ended higher Tuesday.

The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) gained 24.02 points, or 1.16 percent, to settle at 2,088.86. Trading volume stood at 496 million shares worth 4.7 trillion won (4 billion U.S. dollars).

SYDNEY -- The Australian share market finished firmly higher on Tuesday, with most sectors improving after a slow start.

At the market close, the benchmark S&P/ASX 200 was up 19.70 points or 0.30 percent at 6,672.20, while the broader All Ordinaries index was up 20.90 points or 0.31 percent at 6,778.60.

WELLINGTON -- New Zealand stock market's indicator, the S&P/NZX 50 index, jumped by 0.25 percent to 11,090 on Tuesday.

The jump was led by Wellington Drive Technologies Limited, which went up by 15.2 percent to 0.197 NZ dollars (0.127 U.S. dollars), while Blis Technologies Limited dropped by 7.14 percent to 0.039 NZ dollars. Enditem
