BOGOTA, Oct. 22 (Xinhua) -- Colombia's professional footballers will begin a strike next month after failed negotiations over pay and conditions, the Acolfutpro players union said on Tuesday.

The decision came after Colombian Football Federation (FCF) officials and representatives from the elite Dimayor league missed a mediation session convened by the labor ministry on Monday.

Acolfutpro said "the majority" of players from Dimayor's 36 affiliated clubs would cease activities indefinitely on November 3.

"The players will continue to turn up for training at the times established by their respective clubs," the union added.

Player demands include a direct share of television rights, improved health care, fewer matches and changes to the disciplinary code.

The FCF and Dimayor were not immediately available for comment. Enditem
