VALLETTA, Oct. 23 (Xinhua) -- Twenty-seven migrants who participated in a riot at their detention center in Malta on Sunday were charged in court on Wednesday.

The migrants from Sudan, Chad, Somalia, Eritrea and the Ivory Coast, aged between 16 and 55 years, were charged with failing to obey legitimate police orders and breaching the peace.

All but one pleaded not guilty. Twenty-six men remained under arrest and the one who admitted the charges was sentenced to six weeks in jail.

The group brings the total number of migrants arraigned over the riot to 107.

On Tuesday, another 80 migrants, including the eight ringleaders, were charged over the riot at the center, during which cars were set on fire and offices ransacked.
