AUCKLAND, New Zealand, Oct. 24 (Xinhua) -- A devastating fire at the SkyCity Convention Centre construction site was under control on Thursday morning, with photo of the damage released to the public.
On Thursday morning, fire crews said the fire was under control and they were now dampening down hot spots.
It is understood that roof of the building is damaged while the main structure stays intact.
The fire, which started on Tuesday afternoon, is believed to be ignited by a torch used to heat and seal waterproofing materials on the roof of the building and quickly became massive.
New Zealand Deputy Prime Minister Winston Peters said on Thursday morning that the full extent of the damage to SkyCity Convention Centre is yet to know.
Nearby roads are still closed and people are advised to stay away from Auckland CBD and out of smoke. Enditem
