VALLETTA, Oct. 25 (Xinhua) -- Maltese Prime Minister Joseph Muscat said on Friday that the individual investor's program by which foreigners may buy Maltese passport has been made "the best" by international scrutiny, Times of Malta reported.

In a short interview during EY Malta Annual Attractiveness Event, Muscat said he believed that the scheme managed to attract "the best talent".

He also said that Malta is not the only European Union member state to have such program, but it has frequently come under scrutiny.

Earlier this month, European Commission Vice-President designate Vera Jourova told the European Parliament that she wanted such schemes banned across the EU.

Revenue from the sales of passports is expected to reach 50 million euros (55.4 million U.S. dollars) in Malta in 2020, according to the budget estimates. Enditem
