MUSCAT, Oct. 27 (Xinhua) -- The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) held a conference on electricity in Oman's capital Muscat on Sunday, aiming to rationalize the electricity consumption in the region.

The three-day conference will showcase the latest international technologies in the field of production, transmission and distribution of electricity.

A number of topics related to the production of electricity, including energy efficiency, efficiency of transport from the source to the end consumer, and attempts to reduce waste, were discussed on the first day of the conference.

Salim Al-Aufi, Oman's undersecretary of oil and gas, said integration should be achieved among GCC countries in the electricity sector to meet the increasing demand for energy, adding the biggest challenge for the production of electricity is the environmental effects. Enditem
