NEW YORK, Oct. 28 (Xinhua) -- Chinese sci-fi film "The Wandering Earth" on Monday night won the Golden Oak Award for Best Film here at the annual Asian-American TV & Film Festival.

Directed by Guo Fan, the film tells the story of an ambitious project of humanity to propel Earth, which is to be devastated by a rapidly expanding Sun, out of the solar system.

It was adapted from a short novel of the same name by Chinese sci-fi writer and Hugo Award winner Liu Cixin.

The big-budget production wowed the viewers with spectacular special effects that have been widely deemed to be on a par with Hollywood standards, and has become the third highest-grossing homemade Chinese film of all time.

The film "visualizes the Chinese heroism of 'trying something known to be well beyond one's ability,' which has expanded the vision of human beings of dreaming a better future," according to the award.

Jiang Ping, general executive producer of the film, expressed thanks through his representative for the attention and love given to Chinese films from across the Pacific.

"Let's jointly build a shared future for mankind and protect our beloved Planet Earth, just as the film demonstrated," he added.

At this year's festival, over two dozen films and television professionals from both China and the United States were awarded for their achievements in various categories of the industry. Well-known Chinese actor Yu Rongguang was awarded Best Actor, and Tang Guoqiang won an award for Outstanding Contribution to Television and Film Performance.

In its third edition, the Golden Oak Award is presented by the New York-based Asian-American TV & Film Alliance. Enditem
