16 killed, 10 injured in pilgrimage car crash in eastern Myanmar

YANGON, Oct. 29 (Xinhua) -- At least 16 passengers have been killed with 10 others being injured in a pilgrimage car crash in Myanmar's Shan State, parliamentary representative U Zaw Min Latt told Xinhua Tuesday.

With 26 passengers on board, the pilgrimage car, which is a light truck, fell into a very deep ravine in Ywa Ngan township as the car reached a location near Yong Taung village on Monday evening.

The 26 passengers including civilians, children and some monks traveled from Khun Taung Gyi village in Shwebo township of northwestern Sagaing region.

Search and rescue operations are underway near the scene, while the injured were being sent to Mandalay and Ywa Ngan hospitals for urgent treatment, local village elder U Aye Min Soe told Xinhua. Enditem
