COPENHAGEN, Oct. 29 (Xinhua) -- Twenty-seven percent of Denmark's large companies with over 250 employees had their IT security breached last year, according to the 2019 report from Statistics Denmark released here on Tuesday.

Some large companies reported that their IT systems were destroyed or frozen and were only able to function again after a ransom was paid.

In addition, the report revealed that confidential information was also either stolen or abused in repeated attempts to extort money.

The survey, compiled from a questionnaire, was sent in February-June to all companies in Denmark with 5 employees and over. Statistics Denmark found that the proportion of companies with breaches in IT security also increased with the size of the company.

The huge pressure on corporate IT systems, according to the report, has led to "66 percent of large companies with at least 250 employees to increase their investment in IT security in 2018."

It added that strengthened passwords, securing software updates and encrypting data were among the solutions adopted. Enditem
