NAIROBI, Oct.29 (Xinhua) -- Football Kenya Federation (FKF) on Tuesday disbanded the country's national senior women team camp, throwing their Tokyo 2020 two-legged final qualifier into doubt.

FKF president, Nick Mwendwa, blamed the Ministry of Sport and Heritage for the decision lamenting the government has failed to fund the team.

"FKF has diligently communicated to the sports ministry and the Sports Fund to come in and fund the national teams. We have, however, not received any response from the Ministry, which is frustrating," Mwendwa told journalists in Nairobi.

Starlets are scheduled to host Zambia on Nov. 8 in the first leg in Nairobi before the return fixture on Nov. 12 away where the winner on aggregate will punch their ticket to the Tokyo 2020 women's football competition.

According to Mwendwa who accused a technocrat in the ministry of frustrating their efforts, the federation applied for 38 million shillings (367,416 U.S. dollars ) in June, before applying for a further over 174,000 dollars in August and October to cater for the Startlets Tokyo 2020 qualifiers against Malawi, Ethiopia, Ghana and Zambia matches to no avail.

"We are calling out on the ministry to come out with reasons why we cannot get funding from the Sport Fund despite having made numerous requests for the same," the federation boss added.

Also in doubt are the opening 2021 Africa Nations Cup qualifiers where the senior men's team is penned to start their campaign with a testing trip to face the Pharaohs of Egypt on Nov. 11 before playing Togo in Nairobi on Nov. 15.

"However, due to a lack of funding from the Sports Ministry, our national teams face high risks to not participate in these games," the cash-strapped FKF warned. Enditem
