WASHINGTON, Oct. 30 (Xinhua) -- A small plane crashed into an apartment complex in suburban Atlanta, southeast U.S. state of Georgia, on Wednesday morning, killing two people onboard, authorities said.

A Piper PA-28 crashed shortly after departure from the DeKalb-Peachtree Airport at around 10:30 a.m. (1430 GMT) local time, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.

A fire department official told reporters that both the pilot and a passenger died. Previous reports said that at least one person was killed in the crash and a second aboard was unaccounted for.

There were no injuries on the ground as no one was in the apartment at the time, the official added.

The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the incident.

The DeKalb-Peachtree Airport is about 20 km northeast of downtown Atlanta. And the area was reportedly under foggy conditions on Wednesday morning. Enditem
