MAZAR-E-SHARIF, Afghanistan -- Up to 26 militants have been confirmed dead as security forces struck militants' hideouts in the northern Balkh province over the past 24 hours, army spokesman in the northern region Mohammad Hanif Rezai said Monday.

The ground forces, backed by fighting planes, launched operations in parts of Chahar Bolak, Kishindih and Zari districts on Sunday and so far 26 armed insurgents including three local commanders, namely Mullah Ghous, Mullah Salahudin and Mullah Noor Ali, have been killed and 10 others wounded, the official said. PUL-E-ALAM, Afghanistan -- Five Taliban militants have been killed in a special operation in Afghanistan's eastern Logar province, provincial police said Monday.

"Acting on a confirmed tip-off, the operation was launched by Special Operations Police Forces in Shina Qala village, Baraki Barak district, on Sunday. The security forces also destroyed four AK-47 guns and a rocket propelled grenade (RPG) at the site," the police said in a statement. (Afghanistan-Taliban)

WASHINGTON -- Former U.S. Vice President Joe Biden continued to lead in the 2020 Democratic presidential race, according to the latest poll by ABC News and The Washington Post released on Sunday.

TRIPOLI -- The air force of the eastern-based army of Libya on Monday said it attacked the Mitiga International Airport of the capital Tripoli and the International Airport of Misurata city, targeting positions of the rival UN-backed government's forces.
