KAMPALA, Nov. 4 (Xinhua) -- Seven people are feared dead after the boat they were travelling in capsized on Lake Albert shared by Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

Lillian Ruteraho, the Kagadi resident district commissioner, told Xinhua by phone on Monday that the boat which carried a total of 18 passengers was flagged off Kitebere Landing Site at 11 p.m. local time (2000 GMT) on Sunday.

"So far 11 people have been rescued by local fishermen and police officers," Ruteraho said.

"The boat which was cleared by the Ugandan authorities was heading to Kasenyi Landing Site in DRC when it overturned," she added.

Ruteraho said the search and rescue mission was still going on.

She did not give the possible cause of the accident but ruled out bad weather.

In May, 16 people died after a boat capsized on the same lake. The deceased were footballers and fans. Enditem
