BEIRUT, Nov. 5 (Xinhua) -- Lebanese House Speaker Nabih Berri announced on Tuesday that he will hold a parliamentary session on Nov. 12 to study laws proposed by the civil society.

"I will put on the agenda several laws and proposals, including the anti-corruption law, a law for social security for the elderly, and important laws submitted by a number of deputies concerning the recuperation of squandered public funds and the lifting of banking secrecy," Berri was quoted as saying by Elnashra, an online independent newspaper.

Berri also voiced readiness to act in favor of the legitimate demands of the civil society, calling on demonstrators to stop blocking roads.

Berri's remarks come after 20 days of nationwide protests in Lebanon, which demand the mass resignation of the president, prime minister and lawmakers as well as a complete change in the political system.

Protesters are also calling for the trial of politicians who have squandered public funds. Enditem
