Aussie dollar jumps after interest rate hold

SYDNEY, Nov. 6 (Xinhua) -- The Australian dollar climbed against the greenback on Wednesday, improving solidly following news that the official interest rate would remain on hold at 0.75 percent.

At 07:00 (AEST), the Australian dollar was buying 68.93 U.S. cents, up from 68.81 U.S. cents on Tuesday.

The local unit jumped well above 69 U.S. cents overnight before settling back to a more modestly improved level.

"AUD/USD is barely changed over the day... but did rise as far as 69.28 U.S. cents in London," Westpac Bank economists said in a morning note.

At 09:30 (AEST), the local unit was up 68.95 U.S. cents. Enditem
