COPENHAGEN, Nov. 6 (Xinhua) -- The chief executive of food processing company Danish Crown has been appointed as chairman of a new climate partnership between the government and the business community.

Jais Valeur, Group CEO of Danish Crown, was appointed as the chairman by Danish Minister for Food, Agriculture and Fisheries Mogens Jensen.

In a press release on Wednesday, the minister said Valeur's position at Danish Crown makes the industry insider "more able to identify the biggest problems and the most crucial development paths in the entire food chain from production, processing, consumption, and export."

The appointment represents one of the 13 partnerships that the government will enter into cooperation with the business community, with a focus on helping to solve climate challenges in a way that also supports jobs, welfare, and competitiveness, said the press release.

"Denmark is recognized in the big world for our good food, and in the coming years, we have a unique opportunity to become a pioneer country on the climate front for the rest of the world," said Valeur.

Agriculture accounts for over 20 percent of Denmark's total greenhouse gas emissions, according to Statistics Denmark. Enditem
