BUDAPEST, Nov. 6 (Xinhua) -- Zsolt Borkai, the recently re-elected mayor of the city of Gyor in northwest Hungary, will resign after the inaugural meeting of the municipal assembly on Friday.

Borkai, who was linked to a sex and alleged corruption scandal, made the announcement in an open letter on Wednesday, according to the Hungarian news agency MTI.

He wrote that he loves Gyor and does not want to hinder the city's further development "with my person and what happened to me ... I'll draw the consequences and take responsibility," the politician said.

Before the Oct. 13 local elections, a video showing Borkai in an orgy with prostitutes and other men on board a luxury yacht had been leaked.

Since the incident, the mayor has been evading all public events. Enditem
