HONG KONG-- The government of China's Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) said Thursday it has approved from the Disaster Relief Fund a grant of 5.28 million Hong Kong dollars (about 670,000 U.S. dollars) for providing relief to flood victims in Bihar, India.

The HKSAR government has accepted the advice of the Disaster Relief Fund Advisory Committee and approved the grant to CEDAR Fund, which will use the grant to provide food and household and hygiene items to the victims, a spokesman of the HKSAR government said. (Hong Kong-India-Aid)

BANGKOK -- Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha confirmed on Thursday he has planned to send government officials to China to learn how to fight poverty.

The prime minister said he will assign some officials of the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives, the Ministry of Interior and other government agencies to visit China to learn ways and means of solving poverty problems.(Thailand-PM-China)

MANILA -- Rescuers rescued 63 passengers and crew of a ferry boat that capsized on Thursday after being buffeted by fierce winds and waves off Cebu province in the central Philippines, a Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) spokesman said.

CANBERRA -- The Australian government has announced one billion Australian dollars (686.7 million U.S. dollars) package in drought relief funding for farmers and businesses.
