BEIJING -- Chinese stocks closed mixed on Thursday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index closing flat at 2,978.71 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.57 percent higher at 9,917.49 points.

BANGKOK -- The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) index Thursday moved up 16.89 points, or 1.04 percent to close at 1,640.88 points.

Some 23.08 billion shares worth 59.05 billion baht (about 1.96 billion U.S. dollars) changed hands.

DHAKA -- Bangladesh's DSE (Dhaka Stock Exchange) Broad Index closed Thursday at 4771.92 points, up 17.22 points from Wednesday's finish.

Among a total of 330 issues traded, 164 registered gains and 115 incurred losses while 51 remained unchanged.

MUMBAI -- Indian markets closed higher on Thursday. A volatile day for Indian markets but bulls managed to take Sensex to record highs.

The benchmark S&P, BSE Sensex closed at 40,653.74, 183.96 points or 0.45 percent up compared to its previous close at 40,469.78.

HANOI -- Stock market index of Vietnam's capital Hanoi, HNX-Index, closed at 106.88 points on Thursday, up 0.14 points or 0.13 percent from the previous trading session.

More than 22 million shares worth nearly 287.8 billion Vietnamese dong (12.5 million U.S. dollars) were traded at the Hanoi Stock Exchange on Thursday. Specifically, foreign investors bought approximately 1.5 million shares valued at nearly 11.9 billion Vietnamese dong (517,340 U.S. dollars), and sold more than 2.3 million shares valued at over 26 billion Vietnamese dong (1.1 million U.S. dollars).

JARKARTA -- Indonesia shares closed lower by 51.92 points, or 0.84 percent, to a level of 6,165.62 on Thursday.

Some 598,110 transactions were booked, involving 10.2 billion copies of shares with a value of 7.9 trillion rupiah (about 564.4 million U.S. dollars).

KUALA LUMPUR -- The Malaysian stock market ended higher here on Thursday.

The Kuala Lumpur Composite Index (KLCI) was at 1,609.33, up 6.08 points or 0.38 percent, and the Emas was at 11,389.38, up 46.07 points or 0.41 percent.

SINGAPORE -- Singapore stocks closed higher on Thursday, with the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) going up 0.71 percent, or 23.03 points, to close at 3,285.72.

A total of 1.85 billion shares changed hands with a turnover of 1.38 billion Singapore dollars (about 1.02 billion U.S. dollars). Gainers outnumbered losers by 235 to 165.

HONG KONG -- Hong Kong stocks closed up 158.59 points, or 0.57 percent, to 27,847.23 points on Thursday.

The benchmark Hang Seng Index traded between 27,534.91 and 27,900.8. Turnover totaled 77.85 billion Hong Kong dollars (about 9.96 billion U.S. dollars).

PHNOM PENH -- Cambodia's stocks finished lower on Thursday, with the Cambodia Securities Exchange (CSX) Index down 6.14 points, or 0.77 percent, to close at 791.09.

A total of 11,276 shares worth 103.5 million riel (25,457 U.S. dollars) were traded, the CSX said.

TOKYO -- Tokyo stocks ended essentially flat Thursday as investors were in a circumspect mood about a possible delay in the signing of a key partial trade deal between two major economies, although upbeat earnings from some domestic firms helped underpin the market.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 26.50 points, or 0.11 percent, from Wednesday to close the day at 23,330.32.

MANILA -- Philippine shares closed 0.60 percent higher on Thursday.

The benchmark Philippine Stock Exchange index increased by 47.93 points to 8,073.81. The all-share index went up by 18.41 points, or 0.38 percent, to 4,822.77.

SEOUL -- Seoul shares ended almost unchanged on Thursday.

The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) inched up 0.14 points, or 0.01 percent, to settle at 2,144.29. Trading volume stood at 418 million shares worth 5 trillion won (4.3 billion U.S. dollars).

WELLINGTON -- New Zealand stock market's indicator, the S&P/NZX 50 index, jumped by 0.33 percent to 10,795 on Thursday.

The jump was led by SeaDragon Limited, which manufactures refined fish oils. It went up by 100 percent to 0.002 NZ dollars (0.0013 U.S. dollars), while Geneva Finance Limited dropped by 8.93 percent to 0.51 NZ dollars. Enditem

SYDNEY -- The Australian share market surged on Thursday, finishing firmly higher largely due to a three percent jump in tech stocks.
