SAO PAULO, Nov. 7 (Xinhua) -- Corinthians appointed Tiago Nunes as their new head coach on Thursday, less than a week after parting ways with Fabio Carille.
Nunes will officially begin in the role in the next Brazilian domestic season in January, the Sao Paulo club said in a brief statement. No details were given about the length of the contract.
Carille was dismissed on Sunday following a 4-1 defeat to Brazilian Serie A leaders Flamengo. It was Corinthians' eighth match without a win and left them eighth in the 20-team league standings, 26 points off the pace.
On Tuesday, Nunes left Athletico Paranaense after the Curitiba club said it could not compete with Corinthians' "numbers" - an apparent reference to the 39-year-old's new salary.
Nunes is widely regarded as one of the most promising young manager in Brazilian football. He was appointed Athletico Paranaense's head coach in June 2018 and led the club to the Copa Sudamericana title five months later.
He added to his list of impressive achievements by leading Paranaense to their first Copa do Brasil title in September, earning the team a place in next year's Copa Libertadores.
Corinthians will be led by caretaker manager Dyego Coelho until the end of the current season in December. Enditem
