WASHINGTON -- U.S. House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff has asked Republicans to submit witness requests by Saturday ahead of next week's open hearings as part of an impeachment inquiry into President Donald Trump.
The witness request "must be submitted in writing, and must be accompanied by a detailed written justification of the relevance to the inquiry of the testimony of each requested witness," Schiff said in a statement released on Thursday, citing a recently-passed House resolution formalizing proceedings of the impeachment inquiry. UNITED NATIONS -- The UN General Assembly on Thursday adopted a resolution calling for an end to the U.S. embargo on Cuba, marking the 28th time it has passed such resolutions.
After dozens of nations and international groups debated on a draft resolution for two days, 187 UN member states voted in favor of the resolution, while the United States, Israel and Brazil voted against it, and Colombia and Ukraine abstained. (UN-Embargo-Cuba)

MOGADISHU -- Floods have killed at least 25 people and injured 47 others as heavy rains continue to wreak havoc in Somalia, the World Health Organization (WHO) said on Thursday.

BUDAPEST -- Visiting Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan criticized here on Thursday the European Union (EU) for its attitude towards Turkey, which he termed as "far from constructive," during a joint press conference with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban.
