BANGKOK, Nov. 12 (Xinhua) -- A courtroom brawl in eastern Thailand on Tuesday saw two people killed and three injured in a shootout, local media reported.

The trial of a perjury case heated up when two rival parties along with their lawyers, were deliberating on a decade-long land dispute inside a courtroom in Chanthaburi Province.

After the shootout, the injured were rushed to a local hospital.

A lawyer who was deliberating inside the courtroom, was shot and injured. He later died in the hospital.

Chanthaburi police said the alleged gunman was a retired police officer identified as Pol. Maj-Gen Thanin Chantharatip, who was also injured.

The police also said that the suspect opened fire at the others before he was shot by a court policeman.

Police said an investigation is underway and were unable to provide more details. Enditem
