German shares up 0.34 pct at start of trading on Tuesday

BERLIN, Nov. 12 (Xinhua) -- German stocks were off to a good start with the benchmark DAX index rising by 45.16 points, or 0.34 percent, opening at 13,243.53 points as several German DAX companies published their quarterly results on Tuesday.

The biggest winner among Germany's largest 30 companies at the start of trading was computer chip manufacturer Infineon, increasing 5.60 percent.

Infineon announced that turnover of the German chipmaker amounted to 8.0 billion euros (8.8 billion U.S. dollars) in the 2019 fiscal year, marking a year-on-year increase of 6 percent. For the upcoming year, Infineon was anticipating an increase in turnover of around 5 percent.

"Demand was particularly strong for our power semiconductors for renewable energy applications and our sensors for consumer devices," said Infineon's CEO Reinhard Ploss.

Shares of Deutsche Post followed with gains of 1.31 percent at the start of trading after the German postal company announced to have increased turnover by 4.7 percent to a total of 15.6 billion euros (17.2 billion dollars) between July and September.

For the fourth quarter, Deutsche Post was anticipating a "traditionally strong holiday season" and confirmed its guidance for the full year 2019, according to Frank Appel, CEO of the German postal company.

Turnover of German automotive supplier Continental increased by 3 percent to 11.1 billion euros (12.2 billion dollars) in the third quarter while industrial gas producer Linde is also scheduled to publish its third quarter results on Tuesday.

Shares of Fresenius Medical Care fell by 0.79 percent. The German dialysis specialist was the biggest loser at the start of trading on Tuesday.

The euro declined by 0.07 percent on Tuesday morning local time, trading at 1.1023 U.S. dollars. Enditem
