OXFORD, Britain, Nov. 12 (Xinhua) -- Policymakers, academics and business representatives from China and Britain have held intercultural dialogues at the fourth China-UK Innovation and Development Forum in the University of Oxford.

This year's forum was held under the theme of "Emerging technologies and the future of economy and society". The dialogues were held aiming at tackling a wide range of issues to address challenges in the development and fostering cooperation between UK-China innovation.

Louise Richardson, vice-chancellor of the University of Oxford, showed support for the forum on her concluding speech and expressed her expectation for future China-UK innovation cooperation.

Diego Sanchez-Ancochea, head of Oxford Department of International Development, University of Oxford, told Xinhua that China is one of the best examples of successful development in many ways.

"This forum helps to make sure that when Brexit happens so that actually we build more links to China while we minimize the negative effects on the university," he said.

"This forum can be extremely important because it does not only think about innovation alone or the relations between the UK and China alone but thinks about development. I think given the current problems in the global economy, thinking about development, thinking about how to improve people's lives both in the UK, China and across the world is extremely important," he added.

Xiaolan Fu, founding director of the Technology and Management Centre for Development (TMCD) of the University of Oxford, said innovation cooperation is very important to both China and Britain.

"The four forum events in the past four years have promoted the discussion and cooperation between the two countries on innovation policy and strategy making. This year's forum set up a China-UK Innovation Strategy and Policy Research Network, hoping to get more people involved in China-UK innovation cooperation and communication," she said.

This forum was co-organized by TMCD, Institute of Sciences and Development of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Chinese Academy of Science and Technology for Development, Association of British Chinese Professors and China-Britain Business Council. Enditem
