NAIROBI, Nov. 13 (Xinhua)-- Veteran marathon runner Edna Kiplagat will return to action on November 28 at the Manchester Road Race in the United States.

This comes barely two months since she competed in her fifth World Marathon Championships in Doha, Qatar, finishing fourth.

Kiplagat, the 2011 and 2013 world marathon champion, says she has opted to compete in the Manchester event to gauge her fitness.

"It's always a dream for an athlete to represent their nation and for now, I feel grateful for the opportunity to fly the Kenyan flag in any championship, which is a good thing for me. I will run in the Manchester Road Race next," Kiplagat said on Wednesday.

Kiplagat will, however, have to face a rejuvenated Olympic silver medalist Sally Kipyego, who has been out of competition due to injury and maternity leave.

Kiplagat has had a solid 2019, finishing second at the Boston Marathon last April in addition to her fourth place in Doha. She last competed in Manchester three years ago, finishing fourth in a time of 24:34.

The Kenyan, who turns 40 on November 15, has moved out of her training base in Iten and has settled in the United States, in Boulder, Colorado.

She won the 2017 Boston Marathon, the 2014 London Marathon, and the New York City and Los Angeles marathons, both in 2010.

Kiplagat recorded her best time for the event in 2012 when she placed second behind Mary Keitany at the London Marathon in 2:19:50. Enditem
