TOKYO, Nov. 15 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened essentially flat Friday as buying on hopes for a key international trade deal was offset by investors selling on the back of the yen's overnight advance against the U.S. dollar.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average edged 5.74 points, or 0.02 percent higher, from Thursday to 23,147.29.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, added 1.88 points, or 0.11 percent, at 1,686.28.

Farm and fishery as well as precision instrument issues led notable gainers, while mining and bank issues comprised those that declined the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell. Enditem
