SARAJEVO, Nov.15 (Xinhua) -- A series of events were held in Bosnia and Herzegovina's (BiH's) capital Sarajevo on Friday to mark the 30th anniversary of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC), highlighting the rights of the children from migrants' families.

The series of events, under the theme of "Child is a Child", were organized by the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF)in BiH.

The events encompassed an exhibition of collected works by migrant children, and performance of children telling stories about how they perceived a war in their countries, Nela Kacmarcik, a communication officer at the UNICEF in BiH,told Xinhua.

"Today, we want to pay attention to the rights of migrant children who are currently residing in BiH," said Kacmarcik.

Some hundred children from migrants' families are in reception centers across BiH and they enjoy the rights to education and medical treatment, according to Kacmarcik.

Amina Alihodzic,a 15-year-old girl who participated in the performance, told Xinhua that they aim to present to the wider public how the children from refugee families have suffered the traumas of war.

"I think that this is a good way to present and awake the people in BiH to see what is happening in the world and to be more acceptable towards children," Alihodzic said, explaining that this is important because the situation is very difficult for migrant children.

The UNCRC, which was adopted on Nov. 20, 1989, sets out the civil, political, economic, social and cultural rights of children, and underscores their rights to life that is very often compromised by scarcity of food. Enditem
