U.S. stocks trade higher amid trade optimism, data

NEW YORK, Nov 15 (Xinhua) -- U.S. stocks traded higher on Friday as investors were optimistic about the progress of U.S.-China trade talks.

At midday, the Dow Jones Industrial Average increased 156.43 points, or 0.56 percent, to 27,8938.39. The S&P 500 added 18.73 points, or 0.60 percent, to 3,115.36. The Nasdaq Composite Index gained 55.06 points, or 0.65 percent, to 8,534.36.

Trade bellwether Caterpillar and Boeing all rose more than 1 percent in intraday trading.

Most of the the 30 blue-chip stocks in the Dow traded higher with shares of Nike and Pfizer up 2.34 percent and 2.22 percent, respectively, the top two gainers.

Nine of the 11 primary S&P 500 sectors traded higher with the health sector up 1.32 percent, leading the gainers.

On the data front, the U.S. Commerce Department said on Friday retail sales increased 0.3 percent in October, reversing a 0.3-percent decline in September. Enditem
