VILNIUS, Nov. 15 (Xinhua) -- One of four FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournaments will be hosted by Lithuania, the FIBA Executive Committee announced on Friday.

Six of the 24 national basketball teams competing for four remaining spots in the Tokyo 2020 games will play in Zalgiris Arena in Kaunas, second largest city in Lithuania, according to local radio broadcaster LRT.

The three other qualifying tournaments will be held in Split (Croatia), Belgrade (Serbia) and Victoria (Canada), with hosting rights for the Women's Olympic Qualifying Tournaments awarded to China.

The Lithuanian national men's basketball team failed to directly qualify for the Tokyo Olympic Games during the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup in China, thus having to compete in the qualifying tournament in June.

Lithuanian Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis sent a letter on Wednesday to the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) backing the idea to hold a FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Kaunas. Enditem
