NEW YORK, Nov. 18 (Xinhua) -- U.S. stocks opened mixed on Monday after an upbeat week, as investors are waiting more updates concerning global trade.
Shortly after the opening bell, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 8.84 points, or 0.03 percent, to 28,013.73. The S&P 500 was up 23.83 points, or 0.77 percent, to 3,120.46. The Nasdaq Composite Index decreased 13.49 points, or 0.16 percent, to 8,527.33.
Seven of the 11 primary S&P 500 sectors traded lower after the opening, with energy down 1.3 percent, leading the laggards. Utilities rose 0.8 percent, becoming the best-performing group.
U.S. equities extended gains in the week ending on Friday as investors were optimistic about the progress of U.S.-China trade talks.
For the week, the Dow was up 1.17 percent, the S&P 500 increased 0.89 percent, and the Nasdaq gained 0.77 percent. Enditem
