AMMAN, Nov. 18 (Xinhua) -- Jordan on Monday announced several measures to ration spending, improve public services and boost economic growth.

"The government decided to cut tax on electric cars with charging capacity of 250 kilowatts from 25 to 10 percent and from 25 to 15 percent on vehicles with above 251 kilowatt charging capacity," Jordanian Prime Minister Omar Razzaz said during a meeting in Amman.

He added that the government decided to cancel and merge eight independent public entities.

According to the 2019 state budget, the revenues for independent institutions are estimated at 1.388 billion Jordanians dinars (about 2 billion U.S. dollars), while expenditure is forecast at 1.500 billion dinars, causing a deficit of 112 million dinars.

The new measures also include introducing a new e-procurement system under which all government tenders and procurement transactions will go paperless, which Razzaz said will save time, effort and optimally utilize resources.

Commending the measures, Jordanian Free Zones Investors Association (JFZIA) President Mohammed Bostanji said they will play a key role in boosting electric car sales.

In a statement obtained by Xinhua, he added the measures will reduce the prices of electric cars and help increase their adoption.

Jordan's economy is expected to grow by 2.3 percent in 2019. Enditem
