AMMAN, Nov. 19 (Xinhua) -- Jordan's Lower House on Tuesday voiced its rejection of the U.S. announcement that the Israeli settlement is "not inconsistent with international law."

In a statement carried by state-run Jordan News Agency Petra, Acting Lower House Speaker Nassar Qaisi said Jordan calls for a fair solution to the Palestinian issue based on a two-state solution, highlighting the illegitimacy of all settlement activities by Israel.

Qaisi described the remarks by U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo as a violation of international norms and conventions and a denial of UN resolutions that have been adopted by the United States itself.

"These remarks would lead to the escalation of the Arab-Israeli conflict and undermine peacemaking efforts," he said.

Pompeo said at a press conference on Monday that the U.S. decision, which reversed four-decade-long U.S. policy on the issue, had been made based on the "reality on the ground." Enditem
