ALGIERS, Nov. 20 (Xinhua) -- President of Algerian National Independent Authority for Elections Mohamed Chorfi said on Wednesday that his organization has registered more than 24 million voters before the presidential elections.
Official APS news agency quoted Chorfi as saying in a statement that the authority conducted an operation of periodic revision of the electoral roll in last October which registered a total of 24,474,161 voters, including 914,308 voters registered at diplomatic and consular centers abroad.
He added that the overall number of voters witnessed an increase of 0.67 percent.
Algerian government and interim President Abdelkader Bensalah have urged people to participate actively in the election on Dec. 12.
The election authority announced on Nov. 2 that five candidates were approved to participate in the election. Enditem
