JERUSALEM, Nov. 25 (Xinhua) -- Militants in the Gaza Strip fired a rocket at southern Israel on Monday evening, Israel's military said, about two weeks after a fragile cease-fire had been achieved.

"One launch was identified from the Gaza Strip toward Israeli territory," a military spokesperson said in a statement.

The Eshkol Regional Council in the south said that one rocket apparently fell in an open field, triggering sirens but causing no injuries or damage.

No group immediately assumed responsibility for the fire.

Israel and the Palestinian Islamic Jihad in Gaza announced on Nov. 14 that a cease-fire was achieved after days of cross-border fire.

The violence was one of the worst flare-up between Israel and Gaza in recent years. Israeli fire killed at least 34 Palestinians, including three women and eight children, according to the Palestinian health ministry.

At the same time, Islamic Jihad militants fired at least 450 retaliatory rockets at southern and central Israel, partially paralyzing the country. Enditem
