SEOUL -- China, South Korea and Japan will hold a new round of negotiations on the trilateral free trade agreement (FTA) this week in Seoul, the South Korean Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy said Tuesday.

The 16th round of FTA negotiations will be held in Seoul for three days from Wednesday. The Seoul ministry said the three Asian countries planned to discuss all areas, including the opening of goods and services markets, investment, rules of origin, customs, competition and e-commerce, with an aim of liberalization at a higher level than the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP). BUSAN, South Korea -- The 10 member countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and South Korea agreed on Tuesday to resist all forms of protectionism and enhance trade for regional prosperity.

The agreement was reached after the two-day ASEAN-ROK Commemorative Summit was held in Busan, the southern port city of South Korea, to celebrate the 30th anniversary of dialogue relations between the two sides. HONG KONG -- Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba Group Holding Ltd. made a strong debut on the main board of Hong Kong stock exchange on Tuesday with shares jumping 6.88 percent in the morning session.

Shares started trading at 187 Hong Kong dollars in the morning, 6.25 percent higher than its initial public offering (IPO) price of 176 Hong Kong dollars. By midday close, Alibaba's share price went up to 188.1 Hong Kong dollars. (China-Alibaba-IPO)

KABUL -- More than 40 Taliban militants have been killed within past 24 hours as the Afghan army, backed by air force and NATO-led coalition's aircraft, continued to pound militants by conducting daily operations, the Afghan Defense Ministry said Tuesday.

The latest wave of airstrikes and military operations on the group were conducted in 11 of the country's 34 provinces since early Monday, the ministry said in a statement. (Afghanistan-Taliban) Enditem
