HONG KONG -- The number of visitor arrivals to Hong Kong has witnessed the sharpest decline in 16 years for the third quarter of 2019 over continued unrest in the region, official data showed Wednesday.

Only 11.9 million visitor arrivals have been recorded in Hong Kong during the July-September period, down 26 percent year on year, reversing a growing trend in the first half, according to the Commerce and Economic Development Bureau of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. PHNOM PENH -- Cambodia supported all necessary measures to put an end to violence and chaos in China's Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), a National Police spokesman said on Wednesday.

Deputy National Police chief and spokesman Lt. Gen. Chhay Kim Khoeun said that Cambodia is keen to see the situation in the global financial hub return to normalcy as soon as possible.

"In our view and stance, we support the HKSAR government in taking appropriate measures to enforce the law in order to restore and settle the situation that has happened and is posing a threat to Hong Kong," he told Xinhua. (Cambodia-Hong Kong)

SINGAPORE -- Singapore's first national brain bank was launched on Wednesday, marking the start of new research possibilities that will generate new knowledge of brain diseases.

Named Brain Bank Singapore, the joint research center was conceptualized by a joint team from the Nanyang Technological University, Singapore's Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine (LKCMedicine), the National Healthcare Group (NHG) and National Neuroscience Institute (NNI). (Singapore-Brain bank)

COLOMBO -- Five people died and over 2,600 people affected by days of winds and heavy rains which has lashed out across Sri Lanka since last weekend, the Disaster Management Center said here Wednesday.
