MOSCOW, Nov. 28 (Xinhua) -- The Russian Armed Forces have deployed a unit of the newest Rezonans-N early warning radar on the Novaya Zemlya Archipelago in the Arctic, TASS news agency reported Thursday.

"It has passed all the tests, has been accepted by the military and is ready to go on combat duty as part of the Northern Fleet," Ivan Nazarenko, CEO of the radar's developer Rezonans Research Center, was quoted by TASS as saying.

So far, the Russian military has owned four Rezonans-N radars, two of which have been put on combat duty in the Arctic, Nazarenko said, adding that a fifth is under construction.

Official information showed the radar is capable of detecting aerodynamic air targets at a distance of 600 km and ballistic targets at an altitude of up to 100 km. Enditem
