BERLIN, Nov. 28 (Xinhua) -- Around 28 percent of the population in Germany felt bothered by noise caused by traffic or neighbors in their residential areas in 2018, the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) said Thursday in a survey.

The official survey of around 14,000 private households has been conducted annually in Germany since 2005, according to Destatis.

The number had increased around two percentage points compared to the previous year, according to Destatis. In the European Union (EU), only Malta recorded a "similar level of perceived noise disturbance" as Germany.

In countries such as Croatia, Hungary, Estonia and Bulgaria, the proportion of the population who felt disturbed by noise in their neighborhood in 2018 was the lowest in the EU with less than ten percent each, according to figures by the European Union Statistics on Income and Living Conditions (EU-SILC).

With regard to crime issues, 13 percent of the population in Germany affirmed that there was crime, violence or vandalism in their neighborhood. According to Destatis, this figure was just above the EU average of 12 percent. Enditem
