TIRANA -- The death toll of the strong earthquake that jolted Albania early Tuesday morning has climbed to 46, the country's Defense Ministry said on Thursday evening.

OTTAWA -- Seven people, including two children, were dead after a small aircraft crashed on Wednesday night in Kingston in Canada's Ontario province, Global News reported on Thursday.

The plane, reportedly a Piper PA-32R registered in the United States, was travelling from the Toronto Buttonville Municipal Airport to Kingston, and was later located by police in a wooded area north of the Creekford Road and 2 km west of the Bayridge Drive. (Canada-Kingston-Plane Crash)

MONTEVIDEO -- Uruguayan presidential candidate Daniel Martinez of the ruling progressive Broad Front conceded defeat on Thursday and acknowledged the victory of the opposition candidate Luis Lacalle Pou of the conservative National Party in Sunday's presidential runoff.

As the official counting of the ballots entered the final stretch, Martinez said via Twitter that "the continued tabulation of votes is not changing the trend. Therefore we greet president-elect @LuisLacallePou, with whom I will have a meeting tomorrow." (Uruguay-Election-Result)

GENEVA -- The World Health Organization (WHO) said on Thursday that the two attacks in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) had killed four workers responding to the Ebola outbreak and injured five others.

The attacks occurred overnight on a shared living camp in Biakato Mines and an Ebola response coordination office in Mangina, a small town in North Kivu province, the WHO said. The dead include a member of a vaccination team, two drivers and a police officer. Although no WHO staff were among those killed, one staff member was injured.
