Shares of Walmart rose over 0.6 percent, while shares of Amazon.com dropped around 0.7 percent, as Wall Street continued to watch the online retailers amid a robust holiday shopping season.

Online shopping on Thanksgiving Day on Thursday surged around 19 percent compared to the previous year, CNBC quoted data from Adobe as saying.

The U.S. stock market closed on Thursday for a national holiday, and is scheduled for an early closing on Friday afternoon.
